There are four different age divisions within the PIHI Youth League: U8, U10, U12, and U14. We generally follow USA Hockey Inlineās age guidelines to determine in which division players should participate. However, players may be moved up or down a division based on assessment of the following areas: skill, age/grade, motivation, maturity level, and size.
At the lower age divisions, there is significant concentration on fundamental skills development. As the players advance in their skills, and through the age groups, the focus remains on skills development, but also expands to positioning, strategy, and ultimately the finer details of the game.
An U8 season is typically split between one-third practices and two-thirds games. The U10 and up divisions are generally one-quarter practices and three-quarters games. Every team is eligible for the season ending playoffs.
Individuals are evaluated and then assigned to create balanced teams. Players are also encouraged to enroll in the Youth Weekly Skills Program described above. Youth teams will consist of a minimum of 8 skaters and 1 goalie and a maximum of 12 skaters.
Players will be assigned jerseys by the league. Jersey's will be of the same or similar color.
